It has been waaayy too long since my last post. Almost a year later I have secured permanent employment. I started at Promega Corporation in Fitchburg in February as a temp-to-hire employee. This past Monday was my first official day as an employee. I am proud and excited to finally start my career.

I still have multiple part-time jobs....bartending and doing promotions for Miller Brewing. So I am keeping busy, no worry about that.

My advice to job seekers out there...make sure you stay confident in yourself and your skill set. You never know when you might meet someone who could help you. I know networking sounds so cliche, but it is really about who you know, and more importantly, who knows you!

Always pay it forward. When I was searching, I had friends send me careers opportunities and I was excited (and grateful) to receive those. Now that I have my job, I still pass along opportunities to my friends and colleagues.

Best of luck!

Three weeks goes fast

So let's see. It's been...way too long since I've posted last. Time to update.

I've been applying for jobs like crazy and have found little.

I started and completed an online course and have successfully learned the basics of Dreamweaver... Downside...new Dreamweaver comes out in the fall. Oh well, I know the basics.

I've been working, a LOT.

I quit my job at the bridal store because the drive was too far.

I was hired to be the PR Contributor for a new movie coming out. Here's my plug, www.thefilmcash.com. Check it out. (More to come on that later.)

**In case you're counting, after quitting the bridal store and being hired on for the movie, my job total comes to five...**

I decided to also quit my full-time job, as the receptionist, to pursue more upwardly mobile things, like the movie gig.

I am desperately searching for a decent, yet inexpensive health insurance plan.

I found out my car is healthy and should last me a few years yet...knock on wood.

There is my update. Nothing too special.

Social media adventures: Day 2

Today, with the advice of a well-versed colleague, I joined Delicious. I have been importing, deleting and renaming my "tags." Then, once I had the tags successfully labeled, I put "bookmarks" into the tags.

I think I am getting the hang of it. It's basically an online profile of your favorites. You used to be able to only bookmark your favorites on your computer, but now you can post them online for all to see and visit. If you think about it, it's rather handy.

Delicious isn't used just for favorite Web sites. Users can also save--I mean "bookmark"-- URL's they found interesting and keep them on hand in case you want to revisit the page.

If you're on Delicious, look me up, Ash7886.

Expectations too high?

Maybe I'm being selfish, but isn't the whole idea behind college to make something of yourself? Get a good job? An education? Okay. I thought so, too.

I have all those things. I even have more to offer than that, but I can't seem to land that so called "good job."

I am employed, and have four jobs. Yep, count 'em. F-O-U-R. So I am grateful that I have an income, but I'm not using my education. It's sad. I really get discouraged coming to my 40 hour week job, because although it is a company that is in my field...I'm not doing anything in my field. Wait, scratch that. I'm not doing anything. I'm the receptionist. I am at work right now, blogging.

College grads have it harder than ever. It took me six months of searching to land this job.
